Meet the MAFA President, Kathy Blain
In a effort to get to know one another better we will be featuring members and their affiliation with the Friesian breed. As your new president, I have been asked to go first, so here goes!
After many years of breeding Warmbloods, I had my first up close and personal, "love" session with Thor at the Maryland Expo seven years ago. I know most people say LadyHawke was their awaking to Friesians but mine was Tale Tales with Patrick Swazye, I was totally enthralled by the beauty and presence of these horses. I told my husband that day with Thor, "this is what I've been looking for all my life". With that, I started my quest for my own Black Pearl, a passion that I know you can all identify with!
I am blessed to be owned by four Friesians currently. We have a 23 year old guy Pieje, who literally has the run of the place! We do not know his history but we do know we are honored to have him with us thru his golden years. I have foaled out a number of Friesians for others as well as our own. I have loved every minute of it but we have decided to no longer breed. So, our '09 Nanning boy Devin, is our last baby and I don't know if I can part with him! We went to Canada last month to pick up our new gelding, Tetman. from the Witteveen's. He is an 11 year old Erik son who is a sweetheart and wonderful ambassador for the breed. Also, we have a Remmelt mare, Persephone, who is coming 5. She is a handful but I love her dearly!
I look forward to getting out to MAFA events and meeting your lovely Friesians. And, to be able to spread the word to others how wonderful this breed is!
